OVERTIMEWISE

About OvertimeWise

Clearer overtime numbers, with the assumptions in plain sight.

Why this project exists

Overtime can appear as three different numbers: the hours you worked, the extra wages on your paycheck, and the amount that may qualify for a federal income tax deduction. Mixing them up can make a useful benefit seem much larger than it is.

OvertimeWise is an independent web tool project maintained under the public name OvertimeWise Team. We build free calculators and practical explanations to help U.S. workers separate those numbers and understand the steps behind an estimate. We are not the IRS, the Department of Labor, an employer payroll service, or a tax preparation firm.

What you can do here

These tools are for planning and understanding. They do not file a return, decide your legal employment classification, or verify the records your employer provides.

How we maintain the information

Our rule data identifies the tax year and links to supporting IRS, Department of Labor, and Social Security Administration publications. Pages show the relevant review or update date so readers can distinguish a current explanation from an older rule snapshot.

When guidance changes or a reproducible error is identified, our maintenance process is to compare the source, update affected explanations and calculations, and check representative examples. A displayed review date does not mean that every future guidance change has already been incorporated. See our editorial and corrections policy and calculation methodology.

Privacy and funding

The calculators perform their arithmetic in your browser. You do not need an account or a Social Security number to use them. The site also uses analytics and may display third-party advertising; those services have their own data practices, described in our privacy policy.

Advertising helps support the operation of a free site. Advertisers do not determine our calculator formulas, deduction rules, or source selection. An advertisement is not a recommendation from the OvertimeWise Team.

A practical boundary

We do not claim professional tax or legal credentials for the team, and our pages are not individualized advice. Different regular rates, special occupation rules, state law, and the rest of your tax return can change the answer. Use the linked official sources and consult an appropriate professional when you need a filing or employment decision.
